There are a lot of beautiful and fantastic legends about origination of wine in the world; however, we find the oldest and the most realistic one in the Bible: Upon the end of the Flood, Noah landed on the Ararat Mount and planted a grape cutting in its foothill.
This is namely here – in the foothill of Ararat Mount, the ancient Uratu (in Armenia) both grape cultivation and wine-making had started.
Uratian cuneiform speaks about advanced traditions of viticulture and wine-making. Excavating Karmir-blura huge wine storage cellarage of 2,500 years old was found. Historical written data state that already two thousand years ago Armenia had been exporting great wine into many countries of the world.
By the way, the majority of wine sorts, which none of the world’ county has now, are cultivated in Armenia nowadays as well: these are Areni, Ararati (Chaschabash), Mschali, Vosevat (Chardgie), ect.
Various brands of Armenia wines and cognac (brandy) remain unchallenged up to the present date. Armenian winegrowers produce three main assortments:
Ordinary, matured from three months to one. Branded wines that are made according to special recipes and matured from 2 to 5 years in barrels; Special quality branded wines that after maturation in barrels are kept in bottles for no less than 3 years. There are excellent table wines, with or without spirit mixing, and also with special aromatic flavors and herb tincture.
